The Winx Club Reboot: Everything You Need to Know
The original Winx Club was an animated television series created by Italian comic book artist Iginio Straffi. The first season aired in 2002, with the second, third, and fourth seasons coming out in the following years. Around 2007, the Italian series reached a global audience, and Nickelodeon acquired the show and produced seasons 5, 6, and 7. The seventh season premiered in 2015, and this was the final season that was animated in the original, nostalgic style most iconic to the Winx Club fandom.
Okay, but what about the reboot? Since the show’s original run ended in 2015, there have actually been two reboots: a live-action one and a CGI-animated one.
The live-action reboot, Fate: The Winx Saga, was produced by Netflix and aired from 2021 to 2022. This TV show is more mature and substantially grittier, as it’s a supernatural teen drama series. However, Fate: The Winx Saga followed the same characters as the original Winx Club and shares similar plot points. While the Netflix drama was reasonably popular, many Winx fans criticized it for taking away much of the original show’s whimsicality, optimism, and style.
More recently, in September 2025, an animated reboot titled Winx Club: The Magic is Back premiered. The series is CGI-animated and meant to pick up where the original left off. So far, the reception for this reboot has been primarily negative. Many fans wish the series would return to its original 2D animation style, while others think the new series feels unfinished and lacking in creativity or depth.
